Basic Info
Name:Sheska (OU)
Bio
Character: Sheska
Series/Fandom: Fullmetal Alchemist
Original or Alternate: Original

Age: Twenty
Gender: Female
Species: Human
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Appearance: Sheska has brown hair reaching down about halfway to her shoulders and spreading out, so that from the front it looks like there are two tufts sticking out from the sides that could be mistaken for pigtails. She has green eyes and wears rectangular glasses with black framing. When not in uniform (a standard military uniform, a blue jacket and skirt with white trim), she tends to dress plainly, such as a black long-sleeved shirt and a pair of light gray pants.
Personality: One of the first things to note about Sheska is her love for books, bordering on if not reaching addiction. She lives for them, filling her house with them to the point where her home is practically nothing but stack after stack of books, many of them taller than she is. She sometimes relates them to other things in life, such as claiming that cooking was a fluid art, similar to literature. Her reasoning may seem on the odd side at times; for example, when investigating into a woman whose past and present were full of contradictions Sheska originally speculated that the woman was an alien.

Sheska gets easily worked up, not just about books but also anything that stirs her up, and she holds strongly to her convictions until she has reason to change them. Being made fun of for her bibliophilism, she has low confidence in her abilities in most areas not related to books. She does have some pride, on the other hand, and won’t allow herself to be steamrolled over. She is proud of her job, feeling that it makes her useful for once, and is willing to work hard at it. She does let herself be pushed around, though, when it comes to work and friendly relationships. Large and demanding workloads are often given to her, and she takes them on with little to no complaint even if she wants a break.
Abilities/Strengths: Sheska reads just about anything she can get her hands on, so she has absorbed information on various subjects from what she’s read. Sheska also has an excellent photographic memory, so she can recall the exact contents of anything she’s ever read verbatim. She reads and writes quickly, as a result of both her love of reading and long practice, and when she works hard at something usually she will get it done.
Weaknesses: Sheska isn’t physically unfit, but in a physical fight she would probably have difficulty defending herself for long. She is sometimes quick to jump to conclusions, which depending on the information she has and her conclusions could be wrong or just bizarre. When worked up, Sheska may not think as clearly and her judgment might be impaired. She has a tendency to panic and blow things out of proportion, which could easily make a bad situation worse.
Notable Possessions: None.

History: Sheska firsts appears working at the First Branch of the Central City Library in Central, the governmental center of the country of Amestris. Part of it was to support her sick mother; with her love of books, working in a library was also Sheska’s dream job. Because she often neglected her duties to read the material in the library, she was eventually dismissed and she had to find new employment. This was not before she managed to read all there was to read in the library, however, including the more private military records.

Later on she was visited by the State Alchemist Edward Elric, who was searching for information about a book that had been lost when the First Branch Library burned down the previous night, the writings of the former State Alchemist Tim Marcoh. The book was gone, but since she’d already read it during her time working at the First Branch Sheska offered to reproduce the contents of the book using her photographic memory. After that performance Ed soon recommended her to Lieutenant Colonel Maes Hughes, and Sheska got a job again copying military records from her memory.

A few days later Sheska attended the birthday party of Hughes’s four-year-old daughter, Elysia. There she met Winry Rockbell, an old friend of Ed’s who had come to Central for a while. Winry later left with Ed and his brother Alphonse as they began traveling again.

That night, Hughes worked Sheska especially hard, demanding a number of files before ordering her to replace them and abruptly firing her. The next day, she heard the news: Hughes had been mysteriously murdered, the culprit unknown. Agitated by this news, Sheska tried to appeal to Hughes’s former commanding officer, Colonel Roy Mustang, to investigate his death. Mustang seemed to ignore it, however, and believing that Mustang was more concerned with his own position within the military than his friend’s death Sheska abandoned most hopes of finding any information that way, though she gave Mustang copies of the files Hughes had looked into before his murder.

She began conducting her own investigation into Hughes’s death based on the same material and came upon some of what he learned before his murder. Juliet Douglas, the secretary to the Fuhrer (the military leader of Amestris), was surrounded by a number of mysteries and suspicious records. Inciting a war two years after her recorded death, being promoted to the position of Fuhrer’s secretary when hailed as the cause of a devastating war, gross incongruities between age and appearance—none of it made sense. Finally, trying to make sense of it all, Sheska concluded that Juliet Douglas was an alien.

The pressure of a secret investigation involving such high-ranking members of the military, bottled up inside her, mounted. When she met Winry again at Hughes’s grave Sheska ended up spilling it all out to her, knowing that she could tell Winry if not anybody else in Central without worrying. Looking further into Douglas, they tapped her phone and listened in on a cryptic conversation between her and somebody called Envy. Before they could leave, however, they were attacked by something (Douglas, a homunculus with liquid-based powers) and were saved by Maria Ross and Denny Brosh, who recognized Winry from her time in Central. Neither Winry nor Sheska told the two what they’d been up to, but Winry mentioned that there was trouble in the military.

Afterwards Winry and Sheska went to Winry’s hometown of Resembool, where they encountered Ed’s father, Hohenheim Elric. They were soon tipped off by Ross and Brosh that the Elrics were being pursued by the military, and going off to find them, both were caught by Colonel Mustang and the men under his command. Following a confrontation with the Elric brothers, everybody returned to the Rockbells’ home. The Elrics hid out in the Rockbells’ basement, where Sheska informed them of Hughes’s death and learned more about the truth he must have uncovered before dying. Not much later she realized how wrong she’d been about Mustang; he hadn’t been out solely for himself when seeming to ignore Hughes’s death, but had been determined to rise up in the ranks as Hughes would have supported him instead of being out for revenge.

Soon Ed and Al went off again; Winry and Sheska stayed back in Resembool. Eventually, as the government underwent overhaul following the death of the Fuhrer and other events that had gone on while they were in Resembool, Sheska returned to Central. She regained her job copying military records and began keeping contact with Winry through letters. A year later, she was taken to Econtra.
